Let Puzzle Box Academy Help Your Child Reach Their Full Potential!

Our goal here at Puzzle Box Academy (PBA) is to increase our student’s academic gains by using the Morningside Model of Generative Instruction (MMGI). This tailored program for PBA is designed for students to catch up, build up, and get ahead. At Puzzle Box Academy, we have done just that!

Puzzle Box Academy does not have a one size fits all classroom model. Our students are homogeneously grouped by core subjects (Reading, Math, and Language Arts/Writing). Therefore, here at PBA, our student’s instruction is tailored to their skill level, which allows for less sub-grouping and differentiation within the classroom environment. Using the MMGI approach, we are helping to fill in the gaps necessary to move from pre-requisite skills to higher learning skills. Our goal is to help build the students’ self-confidence by allowing them to make the necessary gains to move up or down the curriculum tracks at their own pace.

Our teaching is centered around your child’s needs.

Puzzle Box Academy’s teachers teach using the following methods for instruction, Direct Instruction, Choral Responding, Precision Teaching, and Classroom Management. The direct instruction curriculum allows the teachers to focus on specific skills and allows them to progress at their own rate. The students need strong skills in all learning channels, such as visual, auditory, and written. Choral Responding (group responding) allows the teacher to analyze all responses in real-time, which drives the instruction. Precision Teaching allows for daily data collection to be analyzed, which leads to greater academic gains and helps guide the student’s overall academic progress. Finally, the use of effective classroom management skills allows for high rates of positive reinforcement to keep students motivated and engaged.

Through the implementation of the MMGI model at Puzzle Box Academy, learners have made great gains! During the 2017-2018 school year, the annual assessment data (Woodcock-Johnson Test of Achievement IV) showed that students made an average of 1.75 years of growth in the area of Math Fact Fluency and over 1.5 year’s growth in their phonetic decoding/word attack skills. Many of these learners came in with academic deficits and could not make those gains in a more traditional school setting. We continue to work diligently to continue this progress as we continue this collaborative model. During the 2018-2019 school year, the annual assessment data showed that 60% of the student population made a year or more in math and phonetic decoding reading skills.

Puzzle Box Academy not only serves students academically but also offers Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapy. There are Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analysts (BCaBAs), and Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) on staff that works closely with the teachers.
